The former President of Ghana and a leader of a 15-member delegation from the Commonwealth Nations John Mahama has called on political leaders in Kenya to do away with violence in the upcoming elections.

The former President of Ghana is on a peace mission to help maintain order before, during and after the August 8 Kenyan general elections.

Kenya has in some years past witnessed violent Presidential elections leading to the death of at least 1,100 and 600,000 people displaced.

In an interview with Capital FM in Kenya, Former President Mahama said the political leaders should at all times work towards a peaceful election.

“Not any single life of a Kenyan should be lost because a section of the people want to serve the Kenyans. Political leaders must constantly reassure the public that they are committed towards a peaceful election."

He cautioned that if there is a violent election many will be killed and a lot more displaced and there will be no conducive country for the political leaders to govern.
