The University of Nairobi has recalled postgraduate students after closing the institution on Tuesday due to security concerns.

Vice-Chancellor Peter Mbithi also directed distance learners, students on Mombasa and Kisumu campuses to resume classes immediately.

There was no word on when the undergraduate students will resume.

The academic programmes at the University have been affected with almost a half of 80,000 students at the institution being forced to stay home.

The closure of the university was a culmination of running battles between the police and students over what they termed as use of excessive force on learners protesting the arrest of Embakasi MP Babu Owino.
