Actor John Dumelo, who has never concealed his affiliation to the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken his allegiance to the party a notch higher, saying he is proud to be a member of the party.

According to him, unlike the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), the NDC is not violent and does not bathe members with acid.

It would be recalled, that the NPP’s Upper East Regional Chairman Adams Mahama, died in 2015, after a party member allegedly poured acid on him.

A prime suspect, Gregory Afoko, who is brother to the suspended National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko, is currently standing trial for the murder of Mr. Mahama, who died from the bruises inflicted on him by the acid.

In what seem like insinuations targeted at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Dumelo, who was addressing a group of NDC supporters as part of campaigning for the party at Wa in the Upper West Region, asked them to be proud being NDC members because they have joined a good party, where they won’t be bathed with acid over dissenting views.

Mr. Dumelo is largely not known for this type of politics, but it appears he may be lacing his boots for the real game, with barely five months to the elections in December.

“Some people are violent, they will chase you with sticks, and they will pour acid on you. But remember that you belong to a good party,” John said in response to cheers of NDC slogans from the crowd.

He further stated that, “I am proud to be an NDC person and I know each and every one of you is proud. One day, each and every one of you will be blessed with so many things. So basically, this is my second time in Wa, the first time I was here was in 2009. The next time when I am coming, I am going to bring the other actors who are my friends to come and interact with everybody,” John promised.

In the video, a man is heard interpreting everything Dumelo said in one of the languages spoken by residents in the Upper East Region.

I don’t regret campaigning for Mahama – Dumelo

John Dumelo has repeatedly stated that, he is not perturbed by criticisms and insults hurled at him over his open support for President John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC administration.

The actor, who ahead of the 2012 elections campaigned for John Dramani Mahama, is back on the campaign trail ahead of the polls this December.

Dumelo criticized

Mr. Dumelo, who like many others in the showbiz industry, has been criticized for actively getting involved in politics, became a subject of public discussion in May 2015, when he reportedly stated that Ghanaians were putting undue pressure on President Mahama to fix the country’s economic challenges.

Dumelo later explained that his sentiments he expressed had been “totally misread and misconstrued.”

There are reports Dumelo may be nursing a political ambition specifically to get into Parliament in the near future and is seeking to build popularity and support base within the NDC as reported by myjoyonline.com.
