Shareholders of Tigo and Airtel have appointed General Manager of Tigo Ghana, Roshi Motman as Chief Executive Officer of the merged telecommunications operator.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued by Tigo Ghana to the media confirming the completion of their merger deal with Airtel Ghana, and the subsequent resignation of Airtel’s MD, Lucy Quist.

In addition, the statement reiterated that, "the combined business will offer improved coverage and better quality of service to customers in both urban and rural Ghana, enabling wider access to communication solutions for businesses and mobile financial services to the Ghanaian customers".

Under the approved plan, both telecom operators will have to operate as parallel networks and merge gradually over the next 18 months.

In addition, the merged company is mandated to design a comprehensive customer education programme to ensure the effective sensitization of their existing subscribers across the country on how the merging will affect them.
