Address banking sector issues forcefully: Akufo–Addo

President Nana Akufo – Addo has urged the central bank to adopt an aggressive approach to addressing the issues of Ghana’s financial sector.

Speaking at the 60th Anniversary of the Bank of Ghana on Friday, August 18, in Accra: the President said, “The weaknesses in our banking sector needs to be addressed forcefully”.

He noted that a stable financial sector was critical to achieving the economic development goals set by his administration for the country.

The president commended the courage demonstrated by the Bank of Ghana in handling the UT and Capital banks liquidation and the subsequent acquisition by GCB bank limited.

He said their bold decision shows that they are “a responsible Central Bank and a praiseworthy regulator”.

Responding to the call by the President - Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison reiterated the commitment of the Central Bank to institute measures to guarantee transparency and accountability within the banking institutions of the country.

This he hopes will result in a high level of public confidence, security and an overall stability in the financial sector of the economy.
