The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has clarified that earnings made by Ghanaian content creators from digital platforms are classified as service export proceeds.
In a statement, the central bank explained that such earnings, including those from platforms like X, are allowed under existing foreign exchange regulations.
According to BoG, creators can receive their funds through Foreign Exchange Accounts held with banks in Ghana or directly into their cedi accounts, provided all transactions follow regulatory requirements.
The clarification comes after concerns from some content creators about difficulties accessing their earnings.
The Bank acknowledged these challenges but noted that such issues should not occur when transactions are properly processed.
BoG said it is currently reviewing the situation and engaging relevant institutions to identify the source of the problems and ensure a quick resolution.
It added that it will continue to work with stakeholders to improve the system, while maintaining a stable financial environment that supports legitimate cross-border digital earnings.
