The Ghana Energy Awards (GEA) Secretariat and Awarding Panel on Tuesday called on the Minister of Energy and Green Transition, Mr. John Abdulai Jinapor, to explore pathways for energy excellence.
The delegation, led by Kwame Jantuah, Chairman of the Awards and an energy consultant, was at the ministry to deepen strategic collaboration and reaffirm the shared commitment to excellence and innovation within Ghana’s energy sector.
The delegation also included Dr. Kwame Ampofo, former Board Chairman of the Energy Commission; Dr. Jemima Nunoo, former Technical Director for Media and Strategic Communications at the Office of the Former President; and Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, renowned Evangelist and Economist.
The Awards Secretariat team was led by Mr. Henry Teinor, Event Director, alongside Mr. Eugene Amoako, Mr. Kwame Atiase, Mr. Emmanuel Abossey, and Miss Stephanie Tetteh.
The engagement marked the continuation of a nine-year partnership between the Ministry and the GEA, focused on fostering dialogue, recognising industry excellence, and supporting Ghana’s energy transition agenda.
Mr. Jantuah emphasized the importance of independent platforms like the GEA in shaping a resilient energy landscape.
“The energy sector needs independent institutions like the Ghana Energy Awards to assess the performance of players and help keep the sector on track.
“Our initiative is bolstered by the Ministry’s support, the World Energy Council Ghana, carefully selected themes, and a rigorous, transparent awarding process validated by Forvis Mazars and Casely Brooke Law Firm,” he said.
“Our goal is to ensure sector institutions align with global benchmarks, a standard we proudly uphold,” Mr. Jantuah added.
Mr. Jinapor welcomed the team’s proactive engagement and reaffirmed the Ministry’s openness to oversight and collaboration.
“I thank you for your words of encouragement. We need all the support from you. We looked at financials again this morning.
The minister stated that there was a mounting debt of over US$ 3 billion in the sector, stating, “We look forward to working with you, partnering with you so we bring all the efficiencies to the sector.”
“I assure you of my maximum support and that of the ministry. You can count on us any day,” he said.
Mr.Teinor expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s ongoing support.
“We value this partnership deeply. It extends beyond the awards night and is reflected in our continuous engagement and consultative approach throughout the year,” he said.
The 9th Ghana Energy Awards is set to launch soon, continuing its mission of celebrating excellence and strengthening sector performance.
