Ghana has taken a significant step toward deepening international agricultural cooperation, as the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, hosted a high-level delegation from Ukraine.
The engagement is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and advancing Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda, particularly through collaboration between Ukraine’s “Food from Ukraine” initiative and the government’s “Feed Ghana Programme.”
Speaking during the meeting, the Minister highlighted the potential of the partnership to drive poverty reduction and improve food security across the country.
He emphasized that the Feed Ghana Programme remains central to achieving food self-sufficiency and supporting economic growth.
Discussions also focused on attracting investment into key areas such as storage, processing, value addition, and access to quality seeds to enhance agricultural productivity.
As part of the collaboration, Ghana and Ukraine are exploring initiatives that include the distribution of five million seed packets to vulnerable farmers and the possible establishment of a wheat flour processing facility in Ghana.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama to strengthening the partnership, alongside Ukrainian representative Denys Bashlyk.
The agreement builds on a Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the two countries, with both sides expressing optimism about its potential to transform Ghana’s agricultural sector.
