The government is set to roll out a new digital platform that will allow Ghanaians to report power outages via WhatsApp, in a move aimed at speeding up fault detection and response times.
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, said the initiative is designed to reduce delays associated with traditional call centres and improve communication between electricity providers and consumers.
Speaking during the final day of President John Dramani Mahama’s tour of the Northern Region, Dr Jinapor explained that the system will enable users to simply send a WhatsApp message indicating their location when they experience a power outage.
This, he noted, will allow technical teams to quickly identify fault locations and respond more efficiently, eliminating the need for customers to make phone calls to report issues.
The Minister added that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s electricity, renewable energy, and petroleum sectors, while also enhancing customer service delivery.
Officials expect the platform to significantly reduce downtime and improve the overall user experience in power distribution.
