The government of Ghana is expected to take over the assets and liabilities of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA).

The development follows a recommendation from the report of the Committee on Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises (ESW&SE) of the country’s Parliament.

In an address on the floor of the Parliament - Chairman of the ESW&SE Committee, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, pointed out that Clause 34 of the Bill requires that assets, rights and liabilities of SADA established under the SADA Act 805 to be transferred to the Northern Development Authority (NDA) upon its establishment.

However, the committee's report has it that the operations of SADA also covers certain parts of the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions.

Hence the geographical jurisdiction of NDA, which is expected to cover only the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions, may not be feasible for the Authority to manage properties and offices of SADA in others parts of the zone.

The report, therefore, advocates for government to take over SADA and make the right decisions on its assets and liabilities.

The Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) is an independent agency for coordinating a comprehensive development agenda for the northern savannah ecological zone in Ghana.
