The HFC bank has secured the approval of its shareholders to rebrand the bank.

The decision was made during a general meeting of its shareholders in Accra on Thursday.

According to the Managing Director of the bank, Anthony Jordan, the approval signals relief for the management of the institution which has over the last few months been pushing for the initiative.

Mr Jordan noted that ahead of the new banking recapitalization deadline set by the Bank of Ghana, it was important that the bank rebrands itself to shed-off its reputation as a traditional mortgage and investment financial institution in a bid to attract prospective customers.

The move will have the bank name changed from HFC to Republic Bank Ghana.

He reiterated the fact that HFC bank offers a wide range of other retail banking services that the Ghanaian business person can find in any other bank.

In addition to the rebranding approval, HFC bank management was also given the go-ahead to adopt various measures to broaden its capital base including, the raising of Ghc50 million from the domestic stock market.
