Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has pledged that Ghana will only borrow to finance projects that deliver lasting economic and social benefits, insisting that the era of borrowing for consumption is over.

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), H.E. Abdullah KH ALMUSAIBEEH, Dr. Forson stressed that government remains committed to securing Ghana’s future through targeted investments in transformative projects.

“I will not borrow for consumption but for transformative projects like this,” the Minister said, underscoring that Ghana’s debt sustainability has improved significantly in recent months.

He disclosed that feasibility studies have already begun for a new Accra to Kumasi motorway, which he described as a top national priority. The project, he noted, is expected to be completed within two and a half years once construction begins.

Dr. Forson also commended BADEA for its longstanding support to Ghana, especially in the social sector, describing the Bank’s contributions as a blessing.

For his part, Mr. ALMUSAIBEEH welcomed the Minister’s proposals and assured that BADEA stands ready to partner Ghana in delivering projects that make a meaningful impact.
