The Central Bank of Ghana has refuted reportage being disseminated in the media as signing a contract with Swiss company to supply the BoG with gold watches to be given senior members who are due retirement.

Sources at the BoG has stated clearly “The Bank would like to state emphatically that there is no deal or monies paid to any company anywhere to produce gold watches but rather a request that was made to the Public Procurement Authority for assessment which has been misconstrued,”

In clarifying the wrong reportage in the media that the apex bank has ordered a five Hundred and four thousand [504,000] dollars worth of watches the source said, “Suddenly the argument in the media is sliding towards Bank of Ghana paying money and awarding a contract for supply. Simple explanation of the whole issue is that, before approval from PPA a contract cannot be awarded”.
The source added that “Whether competitive tendering, selective or sole sourcing, entities are made aware that the selection process does not constitute any formal contract. This is exactly the process that was adopted by the Bank”.

“call for probe is out of place because management has not made any commitment or pay any amount as of today, so the dissatisfaction with the process or sole sourcing should not now be coined into contract and payment of cash, the bank and its management will continue to serve the interest of Ghanaians as mandated”. the sources added
