Tullow says there will not be further layoffs in the coming days.

The oil firm was responding to fears that they may be further layoffs due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Tullow announced an end to its restructuring which saw the firm embarking on some massive layoffs and suspension of dividends payments.

The move which was necessitated by dwindling crude oil prices compelled the firm to undertake several cost-cutting measures

Visiting Group Chief Executive Rahul Dhir speaking to Joy Business explained that it has been a difficult decision for him to layoff people.

"For a leader, I think it the most painful thing if you care for people because a lot of stuff happened before I came and I certainly kind of inherited a lot of that process and it sort of breaks your heart because it's a personal thing and I have historically done this so that every person in previous companies I will talk to them myself. Because it's a human thing and as a good manager you will say can I make my business resilience, it is not something you can do very lightly..."

He believes that the company is now in a position that he is happy with.

"...I am more of a person that builds than cut so I feel like last was challenging because we have to do a lot of difficult things but now I feel like I'm in a place that I'm happy."
