Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has inaugurated the new governing board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), charging them with the responsibility of restoring public trust and ensuring macroeconomic stability.
At the swearing-in ceremony held at the Bank Square on Thursday, March 13, 2025, the Vice President commended the board members for their expertise and diverse backgrounds, emphasising their crucial role in resetting, rebuilding, and restoring confidence in Ghana’s financial sector.
She highlighted that the success of the government’s economic agenda largely depends on the performance of the Central Bank, urging the board to align existing policies with contemporary global standards and the government’s social contract with Ghanaians.
“I warmly congratulate all Board Members on your appointment to the Board of Directors of Bank of Ghana. You are coming to this role with excellent credentials, backgrounds and experiences.
“Your diverse backgrounds as public sector and private sector operators has equipped you with the required attitude and perspectives; to offer the dynamic and inspirational leadership the Bank of Ghana requires at this critical period with significant challenges in our economy,” she said.
In a notable achievement, the Vice President commended the gender parity on the board, which now has over 40% female representation, aligning with international best practices on diversity and inclusion.
“Governor Chair, it is important to mention that our government has ensured gender parity in the composition of this Board with the appointment of five women. This composition, with over 40% female representation, makes this Board appropriately diverse, inclusive and consistent with leading global practice and standards on board diversity and inclusion,” she said.
The 12-member board has the Governor of the BoG, Dr. Johnson Asiama, as the Chairman, with members including Dr. Zakari Mumuni as 1st Deputy Governor and Isaac Adongo, an Economist and Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Constituency in the Upper East Region.
