The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), in collaboration with the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service (OHLGS), has engaged residents of Chorkor and Mamprobi on social protection programmes and other social issues.
The Community Dialogue Series, held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, in the Ablekuma South Municipality, provided residents with an opportunity to learn more about government interventions aimed at supporting individuals and households facing poverty and vulnerability.
Speaking at the engagement, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, said the initiative was important in strengthening social protection at the community level.
She said social protection should not be seen solely as the responsibility of central government institutions but should form an integral part of local development and community building.
Dr Lartey said the dialogue series, organised in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), had also facilitated the registration and renewal of eligible vulnerable and disabled persons under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
She announced that a free national inter-agency consultation, MAP-UL, was ongoing and available to eligible community members.
According to her, the initiative was intended to improve financial access and ensure that eligible persons could access healthcare when needed.
The Minister therefore urged eligible residents to take advantage of the free NHIS registration and renewal services being provided by the NHIA.
The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Okoe Vanderpuije, commended the Ministry for taking the dialogue to the community level.
He said direct engagement with residents enabled government to better understand the challenges facing constituents and identify practical ways of addressing them.
Mr Vanderpuije urged residents to actively participate in government programmes and channel their concerns to the relevant authorities.
Officials from the Gender Ministry and other stakeholders also provided information on social protection interventions and social issues, including domestic violence, child marriage, teenage pregnancy, human trafficking, child protection, NHIS and the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) reassessment exercise.
Residents of Chorkor and Mamprobi used the platform to ask questions and provide feedback on social protection programmes and other challenges affecting their communities.
The concerns raised are expected to help improve the delivery and accessibility of social protection interventions.
