The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, has denied claims that the company is stealing customers’ data.

His comments come after many users complained about their data bundles finishing quickly or disappearing unexpectedly.

Speaking on Friday, April 17, Blewett said MTN has no reason to manipulate customer data, as doing so would drive customers away and harm the company’s reputation.

He explained that the fast use of data is mostly due to how smartphones and apps work today. According to him, background app activity, automatic updates, and high-quality video streaming consume large amounts of data.

He advised customers to monitor their data usage more closely by checking app activity and adjusting settings such as video quality.

Blewett stressed that users also have a role to play in managing their data effectively.

“There’s zero incentive for MTN to steal data from you. Because it will just chase people away. It’s not something we do; it’s not part of our values. So there’s a lot that we have to do as customers. We have to be very responsible.”
