Afua Asantewaa has been appointed as the new Tourism Ambassador for Ghana.

The selection of Afua Asantewaa as a tourism ambassador is in recognition of the impact her sing-a-thon attempt has had on the country's image.

“The Ghana Tourism Authority is to appoint her, Aunty Afua as the tourism ambassador. That’s one of the things she’s going to do," a member of the GTA announced at the after-party held on Friday evening, in her honour, at the Akwaaba Village in Accra.

"You are going to be one of the people championing to the whole world that there’s a country called Ghana, it’s a lovely place to be, they have great people who are resilient, who are tenacious, who have drive, who have talent.”

The broadcast journalist and mother of three who had commenced her attempt to break the sing-a-thon record on Christmas Eve, concluded on Friday, December 29 after an impressive 126 hours and 52 minutes at the Akwaaba Village.

On Thursday, December 27, 2023, Afua surpassed the prior record set by Indian singer Sunil Waghmare, who had sung for 105 hours in March 2012.

Her team, however, eagerly awaits the official determination by the Guinness Book of Records.
