The bones of an adult have reportedly been found metres away from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s California home.

The human remains were allegedly discovered by landscapers doing work at another estate, down the road from the couple’s house, The Sun reports.

The publication said the small adult bones date back centuries and are thought to be those of a Native American.

A forensic anthropologist will determine the age of the skeletal remains after being brought in by authorities.

Workers were reportedly landscaping a property on Riven Rock Road in Montecito, and while the exact address was not confirmed, the area is around 320m from the pair’s mansion.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Montecito mansion boasts nine bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, a tennis court, a pool and immaculate gardens.

The couple reportedly purchased the home for $A14 million, which is considered a bargain, as it last sold in 2009 for $A25 million.

The house includes a library, office, spa, gym, games room and arcade, an in-home theatre and wine cellar, according to real estate website Zillow.

According to The Sun, the skeleton is incomplete and was found around 60m to 90m deep in the soil.

They alleged the bones could have been from a member of the Chumash tribe, who are said to have inhabited the region from around 700AD.

A spokesman woman for the local police said if the remains were not old, there would be an investigation.

“We will have to get out our magnifying glasses,” she said.

The couple’s home was built in 2003, and altogether has nearly 1765 square metres of living space.

Montecito is around two hours northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

It’s become a celebrity hotspot over recent years, known for its laid back atmosphere and lack of paparazzi.
