Hiplifer Tic Tac is not enthused about retailer giant, Melcom’s use of his images despite expiration of a valid contract 6 years ago.

For continuously benefiting from his name and images, the ‘Philomena’ hitmaker through his lawyer Gary Nimako is demanding 500,000 cedis as compensation for illegal use of his visuals and gaining on his blind side.

Tic Tac reportedly signed a two-year brand ambassadorial deal with Melcom in 2009 giving the retail shop access to his image, voice for advertising and promotional campaigns in addition to making personal appearances at events.

To show goodwill, Tic is said to have given Melcom another 6 months after the campaign to take his images from billboards and other platforms but Melcom reportedly had not undertaken the changes to reflect the times.

So when Tic eventually on May 24, 2016 saw billboards bearing his images at varied places in Tema, he decided to sue and claim part of the funds they made through him.

Informing Melcom of his discovery and need for compensation, the India outlet reportedly admitted “it had totally escaped their attention” but then saw no need for compensation.

It is by being insensitive to his cause that Tic decided to use the Accra High Court for remedy.
