Two men accused in the yet-to-be-filed SML case have taken the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to court, claiming their rights were violated when they were photographed while holding placards with their names.
The applicants, Christian Tetteh Sotie, Managing Director of Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML), and Isaac Crentsil, a former Commissioner of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and now a manager at SML, say the act was unlawful and amounted to a breach of their dignity.
In a human rights application, the two are asking the court to declare the OSP’s actions illegal and to prevent the office from releasing or publishing the photographs. They argue that any such publication would further violate their rights and unfairly stigmatise them.
SML and several of its current and former executives are being investigated over a controversial revenue assurance contract between the company and the GRA. Others reportedly under investigation include Kenneth Ofori-Atta, the former Minister for Finance.
