Holy Child School has secured its place in the quarter-final stage of the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz, after claiming a narrow win in the one-eighth stage.

Holy Child School, the seeded school in Tuesday's contest beat Akwamuman SHS with just 2 points, after scoring 33 points, while Akwamuman scored 31 points, and Breman Asikuma SHS scored 30 points.

The contestants for Akwamuman SHS could not hold back their tears as they were rendered disqualified from the contest because of a 2-point defeat.

Holy Child School this year has another chance at winning the envious NSMQ trophy, although Mawuli School eliminated them in the 2017 edition before they could progress to the semi-final stage.

Akwamuman SHS and Breman Asikuma SHS will, however, have to try again in the 2019 edition of the NSMQ.

23 schools out of 27 in the one-eighth session of the NSMQ 2018, have so far qualified for the quarter-final stage.

The one-eighth stage of the NSMQ is expected to end on Wednesday, 27th June 2018, for the quarter-final stage to begin from Thursday, 28th June 2018 to June 30, followed by the Semi-Finals on July 2, 2018.

At the quarterfinal stage, each point of the competing schools will be worth Five Ghana cedis (GHS 5) and this will be paid out to each of the three competitors and their teacher.

The Grand Finale of this year's National Science and Maths Quiz will be held on Thursday, July 5.
