The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has cancelled the results of thousands of candidates who sat the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over various examination irregularities.
According to WAEC, the decision was taken after investigations into cases of suspected malpractice reported during the conduct of the examination.
The Council said the Ghana Examinations Committee, at its 42nd meeting held on Friday, August 7, 2026, approved the cancellation of the subject results of 7,434 candidates for bringing foreign materials, including prepared notes, textbooks and printed materials, into examination halls.
The entire results of 861 candidates were also cancelled for possessing mobile phones in examination halls.
In addition, WAEC said the subject results of 957 candidates and the entire results of 270 candidates have been withheld over various suspected offences.
The Council further disclosed that some subject results of candidates from 169 schools remain withheld over alleged collusion.
WAEC said investigations into those cases are ongoing and the affected results could either be released or cancelled depending on the outcome of the investigations, which are expected to be completed by October 30, 2026.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld have been advised to visit the WAEC irregularity portal at https://irreg.waecgh.org and click on the “withheld/cancelled” button to view the reasons and information on the next course of action.
