The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
A total of 512,862 candidates, comprising 225,270 males and 287,592 females, from 1,022 schools were registered for the examination.
The figure represents an 11.07% increase over the 461,736 candidates who entered for the examination in 2025.
WAEC said 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98%, were absent from the examination.

The results have been hosted online, with school heads provided with login details to access the results of their candidates. Candidates may also access their results through the WAEC website.
WAEC cautioned candidates and the public against fraudsters who promise to upgrade examination results for a fee, stressing that its results are secured and can be authenticated through its results verification system.
The 2026 performance statistics show mixed results across the four core subjects.
Social Studies recorded the highest performance, with 393,918 candidates, representing 78.04%, obtaining grades A1 to C6.
English Language followed with 315,094 candidates (62.40%), while Integrated Science recorded 309,605 candidates (62.08%).
In Mathematics (Core), 306,234 candidates, representing 60.75%, obtained grades A1 to C6.
Compared with previous years, WAEC noted that performance in Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies varied over the four-year period, while English Language recorded a progressive decline from 73.11% in 2023 to 69.52% in 2024, 69.00% in 2025 and 62.40% in 2026.
