Provisional data from the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) shows a sharp rise in road traffic crashes and fatalities in Ghana in 2025.

A total of 14,743 crashes were recorded nationwide between January and December 2025, up from 13,489 in 2024, a 9.3 percent increase.

Vehicle involvement in crashes also rose, with 24,938 vehicles involved in 2025 compared to 22,975 in 2024, marking an 8.5 percent increase.

Tragically, road traffic deaths climbed from 2,494 in 2024 to 2,949 in 2025, an 18.2 percent rise, making fatalities the fastest-growing indicator among all crash statistics. Injuries also increased, with 16,714 people hurt in 2025, up from 15,607 in 2024, reflecting a 7.1 percent increase.

Pedestrians continued to be among the most vulnerable road users. A total of 2,561 pedestrians were involved in crashes in 2025, up from 2,394 the previous year, a 7 percent increase, highlighting ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety, particularly in urban and high-traffic areas.

These figures underscore the urgent need for stronger road safety measures to protect all road users.
