Hundreds of female students of Tolon Senior High School in the Tolon District of the Northern Region have been displaced after a fire tore through the school’s girls’ dormitory early Monday morning, February 2, 2026.

The fire, which broke out around 7:20 am., destroyed five top-floor dormitories, including three in Gbewaa House, one in Furgurson House, and one in Tolon-Naa House, worsening congestion in an already overstretched accommodation system.

The incident left many students stranded before personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) intervened and brought the blaze under control.

This comes after another fire left nearly 900 female students of the Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) without accommodation after the school’s girls’ dormitory was destroyed on January 28, 2026.

The dormitory was gutted by the blaze, leaving little of the structure or its contents intact.

At the time of the incident, most students were in class. Many rushed back to the dormitory as the fire spread, desperately trying to rescue their belongings before the flames took over.

Firefighters worked for several hours to contain the fire and eventually bring it under control.

Although no injuries or fatalities were recorded, the damage was extensive. Beds, mattresses, books, uniforms, and other personal items were all destroyed in the fire.
