President Mahama in inaugurating the John Evans Atta Mills Presidential Library has described the late president as a "patriot, tolerant, humble, peace-loving, loyal, devout Christian, father for all and calm leader” stressing "he was our Rock of Gibraltar."

The facility which has  a memorial and research facility in Cape Coast boasts a library with a 100-capacity auditorium, 45-seater multi-media centre, virtual sound room, seminar rooms and a museum that holds historical materials that reflect the life and works of late President Mills.

The library shall also preserve and make available the papers, records, collections and historical materials of President Mills and other prominent African intellectuals and political leaders.

The facility will be managed by the University of Cape Coast Libraries, and its research events will be coordinated by the university's Faculty of Arts, with support from the Directorate of Research Innovation and Consultancy of the UCC as reported by Graphic Online.

The inauguration of the facility coincided with the fourth anniversary of Prof. Mills’s passing on July 24, 2012.
