President Akufo-Addo after several attempts to man the affairs of Ghana as the first Gentleman of the land, was declared the winner after the December 2016  keenly contested elections.

President Akufo-Addo was sworn-in as President of Ghana on January 7, 2017, at age 73.
It is essential to know some things about President Akufo-Addo who marks his 74th birthday on March 29.

1. President Akufo-Addo was born and raised in Accra central

President Akufo-Addo was born and raised in Accra central precisely in Ga-Maami. His father's property, Betty House, was made the headquarters of the country's first political party after it was formed. President Akufo-Addo stems from rich roots with 3 out of the 6 founding fathers of Ghana being his relatives. His father, Edward Akufo-Addo, was the third Chief Justice of Ghana who was later made the president of the republic from 1969 to 1972. President Akufo-Addo is the 5th president of the 4th republic.

2. President Akufo-Addo had his basic education in Accra central

President Akufo-Addo received his primary education at the Government Boys School and went to Orielly Secondary School, and later at the Rowe Road School (now Kimbu), both in Accra Central. He went to England to study for his O Level and A Level examination at Lancing College, Sussex. He returned to Ghana in 1962 to teach at the Accra Academy before going to read Economics at the University of Ghana, Legon, in 1964, earning a BSc(Econ) degree in 1967.

President Akufo-Addo subsequently studied law in the UK and was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in July 1971. Akufo-Addo was called to the Ghana bar in July 1975 along with notable Ghanaian politicians such as Nana Ato Dadzie and Tsatsu Tsikata.

3. President Akufo -Addo was the first National Organiser of the NPP

In 1992 President Akufo-Addo became the first national organiser of the NPP and later that year, campaign manager of the party's first presidential candidate, Prof. Albert Adu Boahen, the man of courage who broke the “culture of silence” in Ghana.

4. President Akufo-Addo led the most popular demonstration ever in Ghana

In 1995 President Akufo-Addo led the famous “Kumi Preko” demonstration of the Alliance For Change (AFC), a broad-based political pressure group, which mobilised thousands of people onto the streets of Ghana to protest the Value Added Tax (VAT) initiative which was being introduced by the government of Ghana under the then President Rawlings.

5. President Akufo-Addo introduced mobile telephones to Ghana

President Akufo-Addo had numerous opportunities to serve in different capacities. Being the first chairperson of DHL (Ghana) Ltd, he served on many boards and committees of major organisations in the country. Through his initiatives, the use of mobile telephones in Ghana was made possible. His interaction with Millicom, a US company, made it possible for him to achieve this fast. He was also made the first chairperson of the Ghana Committee on Human and Peoples’ Rights and Kinesec Communications (Co) Ltd.
