Two Granbird buses have been involved in a collision at Duapompo on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.
According to a report from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the vehicles involved were a VIP Granbird bus, with registration number GW-5373-23, owned by Chairman ION and driven by Mr Simon Azuma, which was carrying 34 passengers. History
The second vehicle was a KN KIA Granbird bus, registration number AK-980-26, owned by KOD Transport and driven by Mr Francis Yeboah. It was also carrying 34 passengers.
A total of 68 people were involved in the accident. The GNFS said 67 victims, who sustained various degrees of injury, were rescued by members of the public before the arrival of fire service personnel.
The injured victims were subsequently conveyed to the Konongo Government Hospital for medical attention.
The VIP bus driver, who was trapped inside the vehicle, was rescued by GNFS personnel using a spreader through a dashboard roll technique. He was later transported by Ambulance GV 589-20.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
