The Central Regional Police Command has arrested six suspects in connection with a violent attack at New Winneba that left three people dead and 15 others injured.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, when a mob of about 300 people allegedly armed with guns, stones, cutlasses and sticks stormed the New Winneba Township.
According to the Police, the group came from Gomoa Oguakrom, Gomoa Yenkuadze and Gomoa Pomadze and attacked residents, shops and homes, resulting in injuries and property damage.
The six suspects arrested are Kweku Kakraba, 52; Arko Thomas, 19; Samuel Tulasi, 19; Samuel Gyasi, 22; Emmanuel Okyere, 22; and Seth Osei, 22.
The Police said about 15 injured victims, including a police officer, were taken to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba for treatment.
Three people were subsequently confirmed dead by the medical officer on duty.
Police personnel also retrieved one locally manufactured single-barrel gun and an empty AAA cartridge from the scene.
Following the incident, personnel from the Winneba, Agona Swedru and Mankessim Divisions, as well as the Inspector-General of Police's special team, were deployed to reinforce security in the area.
Two armoured vehicles from the Police Headquarters were also deployed.
The Police have since mounted six snap checkpoints in the area and intensified day and night patrols to prevent further attacks.
Personnel from the Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Directorate (PID) and Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have also been deployed to monitor the situation.
The Police said the area is currently calm and the situation is under control.
All six suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations.
