The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has announced that Ghana has recovered more than $15 million from an international online crime group that used cryptocurrency to defraud Ghanaians.

Dr Ayine made the announcement on Thursday while speaking at the Government’s Accountability Series.

He praised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and other investigative agencies for working together to protect the country’s financial interests.

“EOCO successfully used our local laws to freeze and recover virtual assets hidden in foreign jurisdictions. On November 19, 2025, Zodia Custody converted the crypto assets of the criminal enterprise and deposited $15,191,730.13 into the EOCO exhibit account,” he stated.

Dr Ayine explained that the crime network targeted Ghanaians and laundered the stolen money using digital currencies such as Bitcoin and USDT.

He described the recovery as a major success for law enforcement, saying the funds had been returned to the country after being stolen and sent abroad.

The Attorney-General also confirmed that victims of the fraud would be identified and compensated. He added that the recovery shows the government’s strong commitment to fighting international cybercrime, improving financial enforcement, and upholding the rule of law.
