Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori who is the Accra Regional Police Operations Commander says the Police Service now use WhatsApp and Text messages to send operation directives to its personnel.

Supt. Ofori said messages were sent to all divisional commanders prior to the Ayawaso by-election to perform certain functions on the day.

He said the Police Service has resorted to using WhatsApp to send directives to personnel because technology has advanced.

This assertion looks a bit surprising to many who believe this is not a good practice as the personnel who do not have WhatsApp miss out on certain urgent directives.

"In contemporary terms, WhatsApp and other messages are becoming part of our system. I can say that for the Accra Region, the first thing is to visit our Accra Region WhatsApp group"

"We have someone who monitors and handles the messages on our Accra Region messaging platforms. I don't know if they can be deleted but the messages from last year are still intact"

The Police Service is known to issue written directives that are deemed official and formal but Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori says personnel should regard directives in the form of Texts and WhatsApp messages.

"Texts and WhatsApp messages of operation directives to officers should be regarded as official"

This new revelation from Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori has raised concerns as many deem this new way of communicating within the Police Service as not the best.
