A former chief priestess turned evangelist, Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has filed an appeal against her 15-year prison sentence for fraud.

The appeal, filed at the Amasaman High Court today, aims to overturn the ruling made by an Accra Circuit Court.

“We filed the petition of appeal this morning because the judgment delivered by the court is so unreasonable, and the evidence on record does not support it," her lawyer Richard Asare Baffour confirmed in an interview.

“We have also stated that the trial as a whole is wrong in law, and we are saying that the judge demonstrated manifest bias by harassing and intimidating the accused,” he said.

Asare Baffour further revealed that his team intends to file a bail application in the coming days to secure Nana Agradaa’s temporary release as the appeal process unfolds.

Agradaa was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each on two counts of defrauding by false pretence, with the court ordering Agradaa to serve the two sentences concurrently.

The convict was also fined GH¢300 for charlatanic advertisement.

The conviction and sentence stemmed from a televised broadcast in 2022 in which Agradaa claimed to possess spiritual powers to double money.

In response to the broadcast, dozens of people trooped to her church, Heaven Way Champion Ministries, and handed over large sums of money with the expectation of receiving returns.

Instead, the victims were defrauded, prompting public outrage and a swift police investigation.
