President Akufo-Addo is slated to present the State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.
This is per Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which states that the President shall deliver a message on the State of the Nation to Parliament at the start of each session and before the dissolution of Parliament.
It will be President Akufo-Addo’s penultimate address to Parliament because his term of office ends in 2024.
Then Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, announced the date during his open submission on the floor of the House on Tuesday, February 6, 2024.
“Mr Speaker, among other key businesses during this meeting, Parliament will bring His Excellency the President Nana Akufo Addo to the House to deliver the message on the state of the nation in fulfilment with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution,” he said.
“Mr Speaker, subject to the discussions that we have had, we propose to receive the President on February 27 for him to come and deliver the message of the state of the nation.” Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is also the MP for Suame, added.
