Akufo-Addo directs all flags to fly at half-mast in honour of Theresa Kufuor

President Akufo-Addo has directed that all flags in the nation be flown at half-mast for seven days in honour of the late former First Lady, Theresa Kufuor.

A statement signed by Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Monday, October 2, 2023 said the half-mast flying of flags will be for a week-from Monday, October 2, 2023, to Sunday, October 8, 2023.

Mama Theresa as she was affectionately called passed away on Sunday, October 1.

Reacting to the news of her death, President Akufo-Addo and his wife Rebecca, the First Lady, extended their deepest condolences to President Kufuor, their children, grandchildren, and members of their family on their irreplaceable loss

Eulogising Mama Theresa in a statement, the President said her warmth, kindness and grace were exceptional. 

The late Theresa Kufuor, he said, "bore the vicissitudes of life with great stoicism and an unshakable belief in the sovereignty of Almighty God."

The President added "We wish her a peaceful place of abode in the Bosom of the Almighty, as she deserves, until the Last Day of the Resurrection when we shall all meet again. Amen!!

Theresa Kufuor served as Ghana’s First Lady from 2001 to 2009.
