Angry parents and guardians whose wards attend the Kumasi Senior High School have stormed the school premises over reports of a rising death toll within the past week.

The parents clashed with security personnel and authorities of the school insisting on taking their wards home for fear of them falling victims to the disease which has claimed the lives of six students within a week.

School authorities are preventing the parents from taking their children home due to fears that some students might have the disease and may spread them if allowed home.

The Ghana Health Service on Monday revealed that all students of the Kumasi Academy will be vaccinated before they are allowed home.

According to reports, about 20 students have been admitted at various hospitals in the Ashanti Region.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti regional police command has deployed Police to control the situation.

A frustrated parent who has been waiting at the school entrance to pick up his ward complained," I don't want to wait for my child to die before I come. I heard the news and since I am also working with Garden city hospital I saw two students being rushed this morning form the school for treatment. So I had to come here to pick my ward. Even though its exam week, it is better for him to fail the exam than to die here".

The Director of public health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Badu Sarkodie has said that a delegation from his outfit has been sent to the Ashanti Region to complement the effort of the health officials of the region.

Three more students were confirmed dead Tuesday morning at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology after three others died last week a day before the school's 60th Anniversary.
