The Accra High Court has confirmed Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena as successor to the Kantanka Empire after the reading of the will of the late Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
This brings clarity to the leadership succession of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Kantanka Empire, after months of a bitter dispute over who would take charge following the Apostle’s death in September 2025.
The succession process had grown increasingly contentious, recently deepening further into a shooting incident at Akofena’s residence during a ceremony to introduce him as the legitimate leader of the church.
The incident left his sister and former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, in a critical condition, with the family reportedly making arrangements for her to travel abroad for further medical treatment.
The confirmation on Monday, July 6, brings a measure of resolution to a dispute the former legislator had long insisted was never about inheritance itself — she had maintained throughout that her late father left behind a valid will, and that the disagreement centered on ensuring its directives were properly carried out.
Speaking to journalists after Monday’s court proceedings, a member of the Kristo Asafo Mission who is also a fashion entrepreneur and influencer, Richard “Osebo the Zaraman” Brown said he would support both the family and Akofena, since that is the wish of the late Apostle as set out in the will.
“If our father decided to leave all his properties to Akofena, I have no reason to object” — Osebo told journalists, adding that he had always maintained the Apostle valued peace above all, and that once the will was clear on the matter, he had no choice but to honour it.
