Residents of Asante-Adomfe where the 33-year-old driver was allegedly butchered to death by some police officers are unhappy that only three personnel have been interdicted over the incident.

According to them, it was not appropriate for the police service to interdict only three officers when some six who were involved in the brutality have not suffered same fate.

The Ghana Police Service justified in a statement that three out of the nine officers who went to the area to conduct the operation has been directly implicated in the assault and death of the victim Kofi Amponsah.

The people of Asante Adomfe have been angered by the statement of the police. Reports indicate that some opinion leaders went to the office of the Divisional Police Commander to demand answers to the investigation process.

Speaking to Starr FM, one of the opinion leaders, Mr Prince Kakari said the Divisional Commander has some questions to answer.

''At first, he said the men were seven and at the later part of the meeting he said they were nine. So if they were nine why have they interdicted just three? All the nine were beating the deceased in the pick-up car. They were all involved so why interdict only three?,he stressed.

The Assemblyman of Asante-Adomfe electoral area, Mr Samuel Boadu also stated his dissatisfaction of the interdiction of the three officers saying:

''If the police are saying they have interdicted just three people I dont understand because it was announced yesterday at a meeting at the district assembly that those who committed the act were nine in number. I want more than three interdicted because it was confirmed by the Divisional Police Commander so I don't know why the number has been reduced to three''.

However, the residents are also demanding the immediate removal from office, the Konongo Divisional Commander for his role in the incident.

Meanwhile, a security analyst Adam Bonaa has accused the police service of a cover-up in the death of the 33-year-old.

“I strongly suspect a cover-up, there’s indeed a cover-up. If you listen to the way the Superintendent in the area spoke on the radio yesterday, then you will know what is actually happening. For him to say officers can just go for operation in areas outside their division or district and operate is wrong, that is not how the police operate in this country. It may not be the entire service but the division is covering up something,'' he said.
