The head of the National Security SWAT unit, DSP Samuel Azugu said he is not aware of the reason why his men were in mask during the Ayawaso operations.

Responding to questions from the Ayawaso Commission on February 18, DSP Samuel Azugu said the mask used by the National Security operatives are for specific reasons but he cannot gives reasons to why the men were masked on the Ayawaso by-election day.

Some masked National Security operatives were seen on the 31st of January 2019 during the Ayawaso by-election which was coupled with violence leaving 13 individuals injured.

After the violence, President Akufo-Addo set up a three-member committee to probe the violence. Explaining issues regarding the masked men to the commission, DSP Samuel Azugu said the mask is always used to prevent operatives from mosquitoes and also hide the identity of the men during sensitive operations.

But for the said day he cannot give the specific reason why the men were masked.
