Security increased in Bimbilla over Damba festival

Security in Bimbilla have been increased at the indigenes celebrate the Damba festival today, Sunday, November 25, 2018.


Several military and police personnel have been deployed to the area to ensure that there is a peaceful celebration of the festival.
ASP Evans Vorvor, who is the Bimbilla District Police Commander assured the general public that the security is in charge,  and nothing untoward will happen.

He said there is calm in the area, dispelling reports of heightened tension.

The celebration is currently ongoing at the regent’s palace.


There has been a curfew for a very long time on Bimbilla and its environs following the sporadic eruption of violence over long-standing chieftaincy dispute.

There was a recent feud between Dagombas and Konkombas which led to the death of a Chief Imam at Nakpache in the Yendi Municipality.

Ahead of the celebration of the Damba festival, six boxes containing 1,500 pieces of ammunition were seized near Chichagi in the Nanumba South District of the Northern Region by the Formed Police Unit (FPU).

The ammunition were concealed in a sack, and tied to a motorbike that was headed for the region.
