The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced plans to stage a demonstration on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in protest against what it calls state-sponsored harassment by the Ghana Police Service against some of its members.
The party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, announced in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12.
The move comes in the wake of the remand of the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC), by an Accra Circuit Court. He was ordered to remain in custody for two weeks to give prosecutors more time to complete investigations.
Abronye DC was arrested on Monday, September 8, over alleged “offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.” He has since remained in detention.
Reacting to the development, Salam Mustapha wrote: “Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demo against the state-sponsored police harassment. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”
Meanwhile, the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), is also under investigation for alleged fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering. Other NPP affiliates have also been arrested in recent months over separate cases.
The NPP Youth Wing says the protest will draw large numbers of supporters, stressing it will resist what it sees as politically motivated actions by state institutions.
