Deputy Attorney General Joseph Kpemka says the three suspects facing prosecution for an attempted takeover of the Jubilee House could be sentenced to life in prison if found guilty.

Mr. Kpemka said even though they have not been charged with an attempt to undertake a coup, some of the charges preferred against them could see them serve a life prison sentence.

"The charge of possession of ammunition without lawful authority is a first-degree felony and if you are convicted on it you can be sentenced to life in prison. It is a very serious offence. People may have expected to see certain charges which were not prefered against them, but the ones we heard yesterday are equally serious charges" he spoke on Joy FM Super Morning Show on September 25, 2019.

Mr. Kpemka answered a question on why certain charges which were expected according to the statement government released were not preferred against them.

"The final decision as to what charges should be preferred against the accused persons will be decided by the office of the Attorney General, but the office of the AG awaits dockets with all the investigations to enable us to form an opinion as to the final charges to preferred against them," he added.

At the magistrate court yesterday the three suspects were charged with; 1. Conspiracy to commit a crime – Manufacture of arms and ammunition without lawful authority.

2. Conspiracy to commit a crime – Possession of explosives and firearms without lawful authority.

3. Manufacture of firearms without lawful authority.

4. Manufacture of explosives and ammunition’s without lawful authority

5. Possession of explosives and firearms.

The case has been adjourned to the 9th of October 2019.
