Managing Director of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Junior, has said there is inconsistency on the part of the Energy Ministry in relation to issues concerning the distribution of power in the country.

According to him, there were frequent power outages in parts of the country, noting that the development was a source of concern.
He recalls that not too long ago the Energy Ministry assured the general public that by December 2020, the country won’t experience any power outage.

“So how come they are telling us a different story today”, he said.

“Again last year, when they said that they were doing some repairs on the power lines and it was responsible for the outages at the time, some engineers came forward to tell us that doing line repairs doesn’t lead to outages,” Kwesi Pratt said.

He indicated that there are clear inconsistencies in the messages that come from the Ministry about the situation in the power sector.
He claims these inconsistencies confuses the public and erodes trust in the Energy Ministry.

“We need to have a certain level of consistency when communicating with the public”, Kwesi Pratt said.

Kwesi Pratt Jnr also described the scheduled time for the power outage as pathetic since it will interfere with the work of many individuals and also create inconveniences.

He made these comments when he was interviewed on Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, October 6, 2021.

Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) in a letter to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) said it has become important to enable its team to execute planned works within the Achimota – Mallam corridors for the decommissioning and replacement of existing lines with new higher-capacity conductors.

This maintenance work will last for two months and it started on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, and is expected to end on December 3, 2021. The areas scheduled to experience the power outages have been grouped into three, A, B and C.

Group A is made up of Adabraka Old Timers, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Ageege, Lartebiokorshie, Valco Trust, Teachers Hall, among others.
Group B, the areas that will be affected include Appolo Theatre, Asylum Down, Adabraka Market, Korle Gonno, Sukura, Mamprobi Poly Clinic, James Town, Mataheko, etc.

Group C also includes Central Police Station, Cocobod, Kingsway, Abossey Okai, Chorkor, Appiah Danquah, Graphic Press House, SSNIT among others.
