A petrol tanker has exploded at Potsin Junction in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, causing heavy traffic congestion along the Kasoa–Cape Coast road.

The tanker was reportedly travelling from Accra towards the Central Region today (March 17, 2026) when it hit a section of the road under construction, lost control and overturned, leading to the explosion.

The Kasoa–Cape Coast road is currently undergoing rehabilitation works, with portions of the stretch still under construction.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service at the Apam Fire Station have been deployed to the scene and are working to contain the situation and prevent further damage.

The incident has resulted in significant traffic gridlock on the busy highway, with motorists stranded for hours as emergency responders manage the aftermath.
