The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has suspended the salaries of 2,563 government workers for failing to participate in the nationwide headcount exercise conducted across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

According to an urgent press release issued by the Department, salaries for January 2026 were paid to public sector workers on the national payroll; however, payments to the affected personnel were halted on the recommendation of the Auditor-General.

The CAGD explained that the affected workers failed to avail themselves for verification during the nationwide headcount exercise carried out in 2025 by the Ghana Audit Service.

Personnel whose salaries were suspended have been urged to promptly contact the Ghana Audit Service for the necessary clearance to enable verification of their employment status and possible reinstatement of their salaries.

The Department noted that verification of employment status is essential to guarantee the restoration of salaries for those affected.

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department assured the general public of its continued commitment to transparency, accountability, and the timely payment of salaries, in line with established public financial management laws.

The statement was signed by Cephas N. Bosoo, Head of Public Relations, on behalf of the Controller and Accountant-General.
