The Volta Regional Police Command has temporarily shut down the Ehi Police Post located in the Ketu North Municipality following an assault on the facility by an enraged mob, which also attacked the officers on duty.

This incident occurred after the apprehension of a 25-year-old suspect, Kofi Agbavitor, who is accused of fatally stabbing 32-year-old Julius Sablah.

As reported by the police, furious youths in Ehi invaded the station, demanding the immediate release of the suspect for what they termed instant justice.

When the officers declined their request, the mob retaliated by launching an assault with stones, clubs, and various other objects, resulting in damage to police property, including television sets and office equipment.

Additionally, the assailants set fire to an exhibit vehicle and vandalised two other police vehicles belonging to the District Command.

The suspect, Agbavitor, was brutally beaten until he lost consciousness.

Chief Inspector Francis Gomado, the Volta Regional Police PRO, said that investigations are currently underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack that occurred on Monday.

“Looking at the intensity of the attack and how they vandalised police properties, the regional command has deemed it wise to close down the police station temporarily whilst investigations continue,” he stated.

In the meantime, Christian Nutekpor, the Assembly Member for the Ehi Electoral Area, while recounting the events, mentioned that plans are in progress to renovate the damaged police station.
