Koforidua witnessed a solemn moment on Saturday, December 13, 2025, as the final funeral rites for former Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, got underway at Jackson’s Park in the Eastern Regional capital.
The ceremony, held in the New Juaben South Municipality, brought together government officials, party leaders, traditional authorities and members of the public to honour a life dedicated to public service.

Senior figures from the National Democratic Congress were present, alongside state officials and residents who came to pay their respects to a man widely regarded as a disciplined communicator and a committed servant of the nation.

Dr Omane Boamah, who also served as Director of Elections and Information Technology of the NDC, died on August 6, 2025, in a tragic military helicopter crash during an official operation.
All eight people on board lost their lives when the Ghana Air Force Harbin Z 9EH helicopter went down. Among the victims were Environment, Science and Technology Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed and several senior political and security figures.

Tributes continued to pour in throughout the morning, with speakers recalling Dr Omane Boamah’s calm leadership style and dedication to democratic governance and national security.
An NDC official described him as “a committed servant of the state whose work strengthened both our party and the country.”
The funeral ceremony was marked by moments of silence, prayers and reflections, underscoring the national significance of the lives lost.
