The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that the suspended 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region will resume on Thursday, November 20, 2025.

The exercise was halted following last week’s tragic stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium.

In a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, GAF said the screening will now be held at eight sub-centres across five locations to ensure a safer and more efficient process. The designated centres include:

  • El-Wak Stadium – 2 centres

  • Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 centres

  • Air Force Base, Burma Camp

  • Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 centres

  • Eastern Naval Command, Tema

Applicants will be screened in batches of 600 per centre, and those shortlisted will receive SMS notifications indicating their reporting dates and assigned centres. GAF also cautioned applicants to ignore social media updates and comply strictly with instructions communicated directly by the Armed Forces.

The statement further noted that a Board of Inquiry is investigating the circumstances that led to the stampede, which resulted in multiple casualties. A high-level delegation led by Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Bismarck Onwona, has since visited the affected families to convey condolences.

GAF also reaffirmed that all injured applicants will continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital until full recovery, while bereaved families will receive a special support package.

“The Ghana Armed Forces regrets the unfortunate incident and extends its deepest sympathies to the bereaved families, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery,” the statement read.

GAF assured the general public that enhanced safety measures have been instituted to ensure a smooth and secure continuation of the recruitment process.
