Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah has announced that recruitment for the Ghana Armed Forces will commence no later than September 2025.
He stated that the John Dramani Mahama administration plans to recruit 12,000 personnel into the Army over the next four years while they remain in power.
However, in contrast to previous instances where there were allegations of government appointees and their associates selling recruitment slots, the minister emphasized that enlistment into the army will be merit-based and not for sale.
"Exciting times are ahead as we recruit and enlist 12,000 new personnel (2025-2028), starting no later than September this year. Remember, joining the Ghana Armed Forces is based on merit, not financial means. Joining the Ghana Armed Forces will be based on merit, not financial means," he stated in a post shared on social media.
The minister also noted that the government is diligently working to ensure that Ghanaian troops receive the best care and support they rightfully deserve, given the nature of their work.
"We are working hard to ensure our troops receive the best care and support," he remarked.
