The President of Ghana Christian University College, Rev. Dr James Yamoah, has been convicted and sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment by the Adenta High Court for contempt of court.

The court handed down the sentence on Thursday after finding Rev. Dr Yamoah guilty of actions that violated a court order.

The contempt conviction stems from the dismissal of a lecturer who had taken legal action against the university over allegations that it admitted unqualified students and subsequently graduated them.

According to information available, the lecturer challenged the university’s actions in court, raising concerns about academic standards and admission procedures at the institution.

The court found that dismissing the lecturer while the case was still before the court amounted to contempt.

Rev. Dr Yamoah was subsequently convicted and sentenced to serve 14 days in prison.

The case has attracted attention within academic and legal circles because it raises issues relating to academic integrity, institutional governance and compliance with judicial processes.

Further details of the court’s ruling, including whether an appeal will be filed, are expected in the coming days.

Efforts to obtain comments from officials of Ghana Christian University College and lawyers involved in the case are ongoing.
